Inflammatory diseases can occur simultaneously in distinct sites in the same patient, complicating treatment because a medication effective for one disorder may exacerbate the other. According to a new study conducted by researchers published in The American Journal of Pathology details the effect this new type of anti-arthritic drug can have on periodontal disease. Led by researchers at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil, the study found that certain types of anti-inflammatory drugs could have unintended consequences for other soft tissue areas of the body.
