Individual dental plan Delta Dental Insurance in California.

I been reviewing many different dental insurance plans and I see that Delta Dental offers and Individual dental insurance plans in California. However which is better to get a use your own dentist plan or an HMO. I see that Delta Dental has both. I had Delta Dental though a past job in a group policy. I trust the company as being a good company to get dental insurance though but not sure on the differences between the two plan options can you advise about both.
