Shopping out for Affordable Dental Insurance Plans in New York.
Shopping out for Affordable Dental Insurance Plans in New York. I have been on line now for the past few day trying to find dental insurance for my family that is not over what I can afford to spend a month.
I must admit that I am getting overwhelmed with all the different types of dental insurance plans and how they work. At this point I am almost ready just to give up looking for dental insurance and continue to pay out of pocket for my family dental needs.
However if I do that, I know we will not go to the dentist as much as we may need to. So before tossing in the towel can anyone explain to me what is the difference between a dental HMO and a dental discount plan. What is a PPO? Everyone tells me I should pick a plan where we can choose our own dentist but we really do not have a dentist. So does that then matter?

I live in New York too. I found an HMO plan that was offer on this web site though HealthPlex. I had it now for over three months and have use it and really like the plan. Since in only three months the plan as more then paid for itself.
I think if you are not locked into a dental office why are you going to buy a more expensive dental plan that has in my opinion way to many limitations. Do what you feel is best for you.

I got a dental discount plan though Careington. At the time I had a really bad toothache and I needed to see a dentist right away. I got Careington since it did start within the next business day of my buying it online.
At first I really did think I would just get what I needed fixed at the time and then cancel the plan thinking I would find a better dental plan for my future dental needs. But I really like the dentist that fixed my tooth. Not only was I able to get the plan savings but they did let me make three monthly payments instead of charging me in full. I know that was from my dentist but it shows there are good dentist in discount plans too you just have to call around until you find one you like.

For me I rather have dental insurance then a dental discount whenever possible. A dental discount plan may be good at getting some saving off dental services not normally covered under dental insurance but if that is not your need I think cost factor you be better off with dental insurance.
I like HMO plans but have had dental PPO plan though my past jobs. On PPO plans you have to file out claims and sometimes pay for yor dental service in full then wait for the company to pay you back the part that due you under the plan. That can be a drag and something to make sure with the dentist you go to under a PPO plan how they file out claims.
Where on an HMO cost is laid out for you so you only having to pay the cost already set by the company. Therefore no claims forms and no guessing as to how much your dental services is going to cost you.
